The Last Stand

Gentrification is nothing new in Washington, D.C.

“It’s a segregated town,” said historian Terence Nicholson about the city.

And after hitting every other ward, it’s finally arrived in Ward 8, or Anacostia—a historic neighborhood in the Southeast section of the city.

“Everybody says that Ward 8 is the last stand. They basically gentrified every ward, and it’s coming this way,” said community activist Schyla Pondexter-Moore.
