Team Powers

Over a year into the pandemic, COVID-19's academic and personal fallout has had significant implications for the Powers family of West Philadelphia. With three kids with significant special needs, including two who are nonverbal, parents Aaron and Syrita Powers have had to shoulder more than ever before, with little time for themselves.

Despite the setbacks from at-home schooling, Syrita Powers prides herself on remaining positive, and instills this mindset in her kids.

“We’re grateful for all the things we can do,” said oldest daughter Maddie, 12. “We’re grateful for life.”
